‘Hope for Freedom’ — At the end of last school year, Seminole Ridge High School offered female students an hour-long awareness training on the topic of domestic minor sex trafficking, a form of human trafficking that is happening within the South Florida community.
The Hope for Freedom team, which hosted the event, has been involved in the fight against human trafficking for several years. Their presentation included video interviews with sex trafficking survivors, including the true story of a Florida teen who left home to meet someone she first met online.
Hawks gained a better understanding of domestic minor sex trafficking, and learned how to avoid it by making better choices to keep them safe. “Hope for Freedom” left female students empowered to make a difference within their community in regard to human trafficking.
ASL Honor Society — The SRHS American Sign Language Honor Society has chosen its officers for this school year: President Alyssa Williams, Vice President Sierra Weiner, Secretary Grace Marks and Treasurer Arianna Hierro. The new officers joined new members at an induction ceremony Sept. 10. Inductees must have an overall GPA of 3.0, and during their two years of ASL studies must have an overall GPA of 3.5. Their character, behavior and motivation to master American Sign Language are also factors in being chosen.
School Day PSAT Oct. 14 — All Palm Beach County sophomores have the opportunity to take the practice SAT (PSAT) during the school day Wednesday, Oct. 14. Juniors who wish to retake the PSAT can register with the guidance department during lunch. The registration fee of $15 can be paid in cash or with a check made payable to SRHS.
