Royal Palm Beach Councilman Jeff Hmara was selected as a participant for the Good Government Initiative Cultivating Leaders of Excellence Program at the University of Miami.
The Good Government Initiative provides a venue for elected officials to develop their skills as elected leaders and to hone their ability to practice good governance.
The classes will include topics such as budget, finance and taxation issues, ethics, land use, economic and community development, rules of procedure, constituent issues, and working and governing in a diverse community, to name a few.
Joining state and local elected officials from Miami-Dade and Broward counties last month, Hmara participated in classes on defining guiding principles of public service leadership, small business and economic development, the congressional environment, budget preparation, and finance and taxation.
Some of the presenters included former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-District 18).
“I’ve already learned a lot from an extraordinary group of experienced government officials,” Hmara said. “While the presenters bring a depth of experience to this course, the interaction with classmates, who are also municipal and state officials, has already accelerated my learning as a newly elected councilman. I am very excited about this course, its format and its cadre of exceptional public servants, and I believe that the remaining five sessions will rapidly enhance my ability to serve my constituents in Royal Palm Beach.”
