On Saturday, Jan. 27, Palm Beach County’s singular and best doll and bear sale is returning for its eleventh year to St. Luke’s Catholic Church on Congress Ave.
Doll aficionados specializing in antique, china, composition, contemporary and vintage dolls will gather for the one-day showcase.
“This annual event is so we can give back to our community,” said Ann Daum of Lake Worth, president of the Sunshine Doll Club of Florida. “We raise funds to donate to women’s shelters, school uniform programs, to support a new teacher in the community with classroom supplies, as well as supporting our parent organization, the United Federation of Dolls, in preservation efforts.”
The Sunshine Doll Club works with its sister chapter, the Gold Coast Doll and Study Club, to host this annual event.
“We have people who come every year because it is fun and interesting,” said Donna Sypniewski of Lake Worth, a member of both the Sunshine and Gold Coast clubs. “There are door prizes, drawings, and we encourage the Girl Scouts to come because this event is built around a badge they may earn — and a scout in uniform gets in free.”
The show also boasts miniatures, bears, a doll hospital, as well as clothes and accessories. “It is a great outing for the family,” said Sheri Winchester Lucas, an avid doll collector.
One of the highlights will be the “Identify Your Doll” table, where experts will tell you about that mystery doll you got years ago. Also featured is the luncheon menu, which features “the best chicken and egg salad sandwiches in the county,” according to regular vendors and attendees.
