Palm Beach Zoo Hosts Save The Panther 5K At Dreher Park

Bryan Kelly set a new course record for the men at 16 minutes, 26 seconds.

There was a wild turnout for the Palm Beach Zoo’s Save the Panther 5K sponsored by FPL Solar Now on Saturday, Jan. 6. More than 500 people braved the cold weather and kicked up their heels in support of the endangered state mammal. There were 42 Florida panther deaths in 2016, and officials say it was the deadliest year to date involving car wrecks. Net proceeds from the 5K help fund the zoo’s partnership with the Florida Wildlife Corridor, an organization working to protect Florida panthers and their dwindling habitat. Next up in the big cat race series will be the Stacey Konwiser Memorial Save the Tiger 5K on May 19. For more info., visit www.palmbeachzoo.org.
