USA Gymnastics recently announced that Acreage resident Sofia Stephens has been invited to participate in the National TOP testing conducted in October.
The National TOP (Talent Opportunity Program) testing was established to identify talented young gymnasts and form a pathway to elite level gymnastics through education and training.
Stephens will join approximately 100 8-year-olds from across the United States to be evaluated on physical abilities and gymnastics skills. “I’ve worked nearly every day since August 2017 to get there. Qualifying for national testing was the goal for this year,” Stephens said. “Now it’s going and doing well and maybe making a TOPs camp.”
The testing will be conducted Oct. 5 through Oct. 7 in Indianapolis. Stephens trains at 360 Gymnastics in Stuart under the guidance of coach Valerie Mas.
