The Wellington Garden Club was founded in 1981 and is proud of its efforts to instill in youth the love of gardening and the respect and protection of the environment. To that end, the Wellington Garden Club Scholarship Committee, chaired by John Siena, has awarded three scholarships to students from the western communities.
Lauren Miles began her education at Palm Beach State College at what would have been her eighth-grade year. She blossomed at PBSC studying environmental science and was on the president’s list and dean’s list. She has matriculated to Florida Atlantic University to continue her studies in environmental science.
As a student at Wellington High School, Raaz Bhatia attained a 3.98 GPA, was vice president of National Technical Honor Society, and a member of math, technical, science, social studies and Spanish honor societies. She also is a member of the band and chorus and works at her church with disadvantaged children. She will attend the University of Central Florida.
Georgia Brooks is a student at Santa Fe College in Gainesville and is matriculating to the University of Florida this fall. Her success at Santa Fe College and her determination to further her education in environmental science is commendable.
The Wellington Garden Club educates members and the public in the field of gardening, horticulture, botany, floral design, landscape design and environmental awareness through the conservation of natural resources, civic beautification and nature studies.
