The Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club will safely celebrate the annual Wellington Dinner Dance in January.
While the fundraiser is a must-attend event each season, the 33rd year will be held as a home virtual event, “Building Sustainable Futures,” on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. Due to the current pandemic and the need for social distancing, delectable farm to table cuisine will be delivered to each sponsor’s home or office and complemented with the live virtual event.
Proceeds benefit educational programs at the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club in Wellington, one of 16 Boys & Girls Clubs in Palm Beach County that serve more than 10,000 children. Educational programs inside the clubs are needed more than ever due to a growing achievement gap caused by distance learning.
“There are specific programs in place to assist and challenge the children academically, as well as programs to grow them in the arts, in athletics, and health and wellness. I think it’s exciting to see how well the Boys & Girls Club of Wellington invests in their futures and on so many different levels,” said Angie Payne, one of the co-chairs of the 33rd annual Wellington Dinner Dance.
“It was through opportunities such as internships and positive role models when I was in high school that helped me to pursue my passion for medicine,” added Dr. Carlos Sanchez, who is also a co-chair of the event. “I know firsthand how impactful those childhood and adolescent years are, and to be able to do the same for others, by way of the Boys & Girls Club, is not only my pleasure but a true honor.”
This year’s dinner dance co-chairs include Georgina Bloomberg, Daniel and Angie Payne, Dr. Luis and Rebecca Peña, and Dr. Carlos and Nelly Sanchez. Honorary chairs are Dr. Edward and Maria Becker, Joshua and Consuelo DeTillio, Dr. Richard and Julia Giroux, John and Julie Kime, and Char and Chris Ramos. Committee members include Jennifer Black, Susan Ferraro, Julia Giroux, Nicolette Goldfarb, Dr. Colette Brown Graham, Julie Khanna, Lillian Khanna, Dr. Daxa Patel, Tracy Priske, Kathryn Walton and Tawny Wolf.
Currently the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County provide distance learning services during regular school hours and traditional afterschool programs during non-school hours. The clubs also offer free breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to all club members. Through quality programs, the club experience gives children the guidance they need to make a healthy transition from childhood to young adulthood.
