Garden Club To Feature Talk by Mark Peters of Peters Crotons

Mark Peters

The Wellington Garden Club will meet Monday, Feb. 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the Wellington Community Center, located at 12150 W. Forest Hill Blvd. The speaker will be Mark Peters of Peters Croton Nursery in Vero Beach.

Peters is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Horticulture and had a successful career in the northeast, where he worked at the legendary White Flower Farm and later was director of horticulture at Boston’s historic Forest Hills Cemetery. Peters then joined the New York Botanical Garden as vice president for horticulture and living collections. It was there that he became increasingly fascinated with all things tropical in the plant world.

In 2002, Peters and his wife, Dierdre, moved to Vero Beach, where he discovered and fell in love with crotons. Throughout his career, Peters has been a popular speaker at garden events and has been the featured speaker on crotons at various Florida Federation of Garden Clubs events. An entertaining and enlightening presenter, the hallmark of his program is a phenomenal display of masses of crotons so he can readily emphasize his talking points, demonstrate the art of air-layering and discuss best practices of croton cultivation. The community is invited to join the club for coffee and a plant raffle beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by the presentation at 10 a.m. Visitors are asked to check in at the guest table.
