The Wellington Garden Club, in partnership with the Village of Wellington, held its 10th annual tree planting event at Wellington Rotary Peace Park on Saturday, Sept. 28.
A village proclamation, read by Councilwoman Tanya Siskind, recognized the Wellington Garden Club’s 10th annual tree planting event. Will Gurney of the village’s landscape department selected about 500 beautiful Florida native plants to be placed in pre-dug holes at the park. Some of these plants were saw palmetto, firebush calusa, butterfly milkweed, Leavenworth’s tickseed, frogfruit and others.
Wellington Garden Club Event Chair Kathy Siena was thrilled to see so many volunteers come to support the planting. The approximately 145 volunteers included garden club members, council members, former Mayor Anne Gerwig, local students and teachers, scouts, community leaders and others. Garden Club President Carol Ralph was on hand for this special day.
It was a beautiful, sunny morning held on National Public Lands Day, which since 1994 has been celebrated the last Saturday in September to inspire environmental stewardship and connect communities by planting trees. The Wellington Garden Club and the Village of Wellington look forward to the next annual tree planting on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025.
