Interested in dual enrollment classes for the fall? A guidance counselor will be available at the Seminole Ridge High School campus Tuesday, July 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer questions and complete dual enrollment permission and registration forms.
“Registration and permission forms will not be available after July 24,” SRHS counselor Girselda Wallace said. “Make sure all your paperwork is completed on or before that date. And remember: All first-time dual enrollment students must register online and attend a mandatory Palm Beach State College information/advisement session.”
Dual enrollment allows high school students to simultaneously earn both high school and college credit by taking college courses locally. To qualify, students must have taken the ACT, SAT, PERT or CPT assessments, have a cumulative 3.0 grade point/honors point average, and meet any additional admission criteria set by Palm Beach State College or Florida Atlantic University.
“To receive dual credit, you must earn a grade of C or higher in your dual enrollment course,” Wallace said. “You’re eligible to earn up to eight college credits each semester, and grades earned in dual enrollment classes have AP [Advanced Placement] weighting — 1.5 compared to 1 for a regular-level course and 1.25 for an honors-level course. And there’s no cost for the class, textbook or lab.”
