Betty Sue Soltis of Wellington passed away Nov. 5 from natural causes. She was 80 years old.
Soltis was born July 16, 1932 in Cheraw, S.C., to Eli Chavis and Sarah Wright. The small-town South Carolina girl married Andrew Gurlides on July 12, 1948 and moved to Hollywood, Fla., in the 1950s. They established a diner together.
The couple had three children: John Gurlides, Loretta Gurlides and William Gurlides. Soltis was widowed in 1962 and then raised her children with World War II veteran John Soltis, whom she married in 1972.
Together they continued their family with six grandchildren: Michelle Gurlides Damone, Andrew Mack, Heather Mack McDaniel, Jacob Gurlides, Megan Gurlides and Derrick Gurlides.
Soltis is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Matthew Damone, Marissa Damone, Trent McDaniel, Eva Mack, Andrew Mack Jr., Jonathan Mack and Jayden Mack.
Soltis was predeceased by her husband John Soltis, who passed away June 6, 2007, and her mother Sarah Wright on March 17, 1991.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 11 at Palms West Funeral Home & Crematory (110 Business Parkway, Royal Palm Beach). Viewing begins at 10 a.m., and the service begins at 11:30 a.m. The family would like to offer special thanks to Vitas Hospice Care.
