Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches, which served more than 11,000 meals to homebound seniors in 2012, recently received a $10,000 donation from the Paralegal Association of Florida, Palm Beach County Chapter.
“Every year we support a nonprofit organization that serves Palm Beach County residents and addresses one of the greatest needs in our community,” said Denise Rock, chair of the local paralegal association’s holiday committee. “Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches does both, and that’s what made it so attractive to our committee.”
In addition to providing the $10,000 gift to the organization, which helps to offset the cost of meals for homebound seniors who are struggle to make ends meet financially, members of the association’s holiday committee also donated gifts for about 50 homebound residents.
The gifts were delivered during ride-along visits with Meals on Wheels volunteers a few days before Christmas.
“We’re extremely grateful to the Paralegal Association of Florida, Palm Beach County Chapter, for the generous contribution to our organization and for the gifts they provided to our meal recipients,” Meals on Wheels Executive Director Charles Ring said. “For some, those gifts were the only presents they received this holiday season.”
Money for the gifts and the contribution to Meals on Wheels came from donations from law firms and others in the legal community to the Paralegal Association’s holiday fundraising effort.
“The legal community is a very generous community,” Rock said. “Our committee and those who contributed to the effort were all very excited to help an organization like Meals on Wheels.”
