The Seminole Ridge High School boys varsity volleyball team bested Royal Palm Beach High School in five games Thursday, June 21 in The Acreage.
Though the Wildcats battled hard, the Hawks ended up ahead at the end, taking the win 25-18, 24-26, 25-15, 22-25 and 15-12.
Royal Palm Beach started strong in the first match, putting up the first two points with solid blocks. But the Hawks quickly tied the game. Both teams continued trading points back and forth for several plays, but Seminole Ridge slowly took a lead, keeping a few points ahead.
Near the middle of the match, the Hawks jumped out to a 15-8 lead and kept the momentum up. Though the Wildcats fought back, they were unable to make up the loss, and Seminole Ridge won 25-18.
The second match saw both teams battling tooth-and-nail to pull out a win. The Wildcats rallied to take a mid-game lead, but the Hawks didn’t give up. Royal Palm Beach edged out a win 26-24.
In the third match, Seminole Ridge came back with a vengeance, putting pressure on Royal Palm Beach and taking a 25-15 win.
Neither team was willing to give up the fight. Royal Palm Beach pushed hard in the fourth match, coming out ahead 25-22 and forcing a fifth match. Though the Wildcats pushed hard, the Hawks gained a three-point lead, which was enough to win 15-12.
The Wildcats travel to Palm Beach Central High School on Tuesday, April 2 for a 7 p.m. game. Seminole Ridge hosts Palm Beach Gardens on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m.
