Bronco Boys Lacrosse Rolls Over American Heritage 12-5

BY GENE NARDI

The Palm Beach Central High School varsity boys lacrosse squad hosted American Heritage School-Delray on Wednesday, March 13, and defeated the Stallions 12-5 in a convincing victory.

The win put the Broncos at 7-1 on the season with the most difficult part of their schedule on the horizon, with a home game against Boca Raton, and back-to-back road games against Spanish River and Wellington.

Less than three minutes into the match, Palm Beach Central scored when attacker Nick Griffin launched a shot into the back of the net from a Nick Ferro pass. The Bronco offense sent three more goals into the American Heritage net in just under a minute to take a commanding early lead, 4-0. The Stallions finally got on the board early in the second quarter to close the gap 4-1. By the end of the first half, Palm Beach Central had a comfortable 7-2 lead.

The Palm Beach Central defense seemed to have a lock on any Stallion attack. The midfield would move the ball to the attackers, then possess on the attacking third, striking almost at will just outside the crease. American Heritage rallied near the game’s end with three goals, but it was not enough to close the deficit.

Palm Beach Central closed out the contest with a 12-5 victory. Top performers were attacker Nick Griffin with six goals; attacker Nick Ferro scored three goals and an assist; and midfielder A.J. Blouin had two goals and an assist.

Palm Beach Central hosted Boca Raton on Monday, falling to the Bobcats 16-2.

The Broncos traveled to Spanish River on Wednesday, but results were not available at press time. Palm Beach Central will finish out the week traveling to Wellington to take on the Wolverines on Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m.
