JROTC cadets across Palm Beach County participated in the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution citizenship essay, and two Seminole Ridge High School cadets earned awards for their writing. Cadet first lieutenant James Bukowski took first place in the contest and was awarded the society’s Outstanding Cadet JROTC medal and a $150 scholarship. In addition, cadet first sergeant Brogan Zelinka was awarded a $75 scholarship. By winning the Palm Beach chapter-level competition, Bukowski will compete at the state level, with an opportunity to receive a $1,000 to $1,500 scholarship award and a silver medallion.
District Health Fair — In an effort to promote healthful eating along with physical activity, and in conjunction with the March as National Nutrition Month, the school district’s food service department brought a variety of local vendors to SRHS March 20 for an educational health fair. The theme was “Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day.”
Hawk students viewed exciting health and wellness displays, receiving educational materials and prizes as well as free samples of colorful and tasty fruits and vegetables. Presenters included: the SRHS school nurses, the Caridad Center, the Charles Drew Foundation bone marrow drive, school district Employee Wellness, school district Food Service Department, Erneston & Sons Produce, GMG Tropical Fruits, R.C. Hatton Farms, a health teacher, Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies, Humana Medicaid community outreach partner, the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation, the Palm Beach County Drowning Prevention Coalition, Palm Beach/Treasure Coast 2-1-1, Planned Parenthood, Short on Thyme: Chef Shelley and the Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center.
Hawk Artists Earn WITVA Win — Four SRHS students were award winners in the annual Women in the Visual Arts spring celebration of high school art, a juried competition. Congratulations to Nori Benjamin (ZMEY, reduction print), Colton Keen (Serenity, gesso and graphite), Cydney Rallo (Pebble Breeze, gelatin print) and Rachel Warren (Untitled, acrylic).
