Seminole Ridge Shuts Out Boca To Claim Softball Title

The Seminole Ridge High School varsity softball team made school history when it brought home the District 10-8A championship, marking the first time the school’s softball team has won a title.

The Lady Hawks shut out Boca Raton High School 7-0 on Friday, April 19 at West Boynton Park to claim the title.

Though much of the game saw both teams struggling to score, Seminole Ridge gained momentum in the fifth inning to jump out to a lead, and kept up the defense to put the game away in seven innings.

The Lady Hawks scored early in the game, putting in one run to take the lead. Then, in the fifth inning, Boca Raton loaded the bases with no outs.

Seminole Ridge pitcher Sam Chung put the pressure on batters, and catcher Audrey Forbes threw a missed hit to Shay Stevens at third base, trapping the Lady Bobcats runner between bases for an out.

On the next hit, Heather Shapiro caught the ball in midfield and threw to second base to get two more outs.

In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Hawks rallied to pull away, putting in six runs. Jamie Hamilton got on base first and was pushed to second by Danielle Fernandez. Then Shapiro hit a triple to bring in Hamilton and Fernandez, making the score 3-0 with no outs.

Taylor Beckman was up next for the Lady Hawks and hit a single to bring in Shapiro and make the score 4-0. That was followed up by a single by Stevens. Forbes was up to bat next, and she hit a single that gave Beckman the opportunity to score and landed Stevens on third with the score 5-0.

But Seminole Ridge wasn’t done. Chung came up to bat and sent in Stevens to make the score 6-0, and Hamilton came back out of the dugout to send home Forbes for a 7-0 lead.

Though Boca Raton loaded the bases yet again in the sixth inning, the Lady Hawks made impressive defensive moves to keep them from scoring. When the Lady Bobcats didn’t score in the seventh inning, the game was called for Seminole Ridge.

The Lady Hawks hosted Palm Beach Central High School on Thursday, April 25, but results were not available at press time.
