The Loxahatchee Groves Landowners’ Association will meet Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at Palms West Presbyterian Church (13689 Okeechobee Blvd.).
The guest speaker will be Scripps Research Center representative George Voren. He will talk about the work done in the lab of Dr. Paul Kenny, which focuses on understanding the neurobiological mechanisms of drug addiction. He will discuss the multidisciplinary approach to studying addiction to nicotine, including electrophysiological analyses and molecular biological techniques. He will also explain what is being done to gain an understanding of how specific brain regions control nicotine intake, paving the way for new strategies for treating tobacco addiction and facilitating smoking cessation.
There will be a question-and-answer session after the speaker finishes. It will be an open meeting during which residents will get a chance to discuss issues of concern they may have related to things that are going on in the town.
