The popular Wellington Idol competition will return in February with more cash prizes up for grabs. Participants will have a chance to win the $500 grand prize, or one of three $250 prizes for the runners up.
Contestants must be individual singers at least 8 years old as of Feb. 1, must reside in Wellington or attend a Wellington school and cannot be a professional performer.
All previous grand prize winners from Wellington Idol or Wellington Talent Search are ineligible to compete. Contestants will be divided into three age groups: ages 8 to 12, ages 13 to 17 and age 18 and up.
To register, each contestant must submit an application form, proof of age, one head shot and a short biography, along with a non-refundable fee of $25 payable to the Village of Wellington.
Contestants must also submit a YouTube link of their performance to Cultural Programs & Facilities Manager Joe Piconcelli at jpiconcelli@wellingtonfl.gov. Wellington will also accept non-returnable CDs or DVDs of a maximum three minutes in length instead of a YouTube entry. Label discs with name, age group, title of the piece and phone number.
Registration can be completed at the Wellington Community Center (12150 W. Forest Hill Blvd.) between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The deadline to register is Jan. 30. Complete official rules and the application form can be found online at www.wellingtonfl.gov or picked up from the Wellington Community Center.
