Alert Horse Helps Thwart Attempted Dog Theft

JAN. 12 — A resident of the Deer Run community called the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s Acreage/Loxahatchee substation on Sunday, Jan. 12 after someone tried to steal her dog. According to a PBSO report, the victim was outside at approximately 9:30 a.m. taking care of her horse. When the horse suddenly became alert, the victim turned around to find an unknown man attempting to lift her 100-pound Pyrenees dog over her fence. The victim said the suspect was holding onto the dog’s neck and tail, and the dog was crying in distress. When discovered, the suspect dropped the dog and fled the area in a 1970s-model faded blue Ford pickup truck with a white tailgate and green spray paint on the passenger side. The vehicle’s license plate was white in color, but not a Florida tag. According to the report, the suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’10” with a stocky build wearing a black baseball cap, blue jeans, black boots and a hoodie. There was no further information available at the time of the report.

JAN. 12 — A deputy from the PBSO’s Acreage/Loxahatchee substation was called to a home on A Road on Sunday, Jan. 12 regarding a burglary. According to a PBSO report, sometime between 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11 and 9 a.m. the following morning, someone entered the victim’s vacant property by cutting a wire fence. Once inside, the perpetrator(s) forced entry into a locked shed and removed several tools and a water pump. The stolen items were valued at approximately $750. There were no suspects or witnesses at the time of the report.

JAN. 12 — A resident of C Road called the PBSO’s Acreage/Loxahatchee substation on Sunday, Jan. 12 to report a theft. According to a PBSO report, sometime between 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11 and 6:15 p.m. the following evening, someone stole the victim’s mailbox and its wooden post. The victim said the mailbox had the street address numbers in reflective stickers and the family’s name in yellow on the side. The stolen mailbox was valued at approximately $50. There were no suspects or witnesses at the time of the report.

JAN. 15 — A deputy from the PBSO substation in Royal Palm Beach was called to a home in the Willows II community last Wednesday afternoon regarding a delayed home burglary. According to a PBSO report, the victim’s sister has been watching her home and had not checked the house since Wednesday, Jan. 1. When the victim’s sister arrived last Wednesday at approximately noon, she discovered that the rear guest room window had been propped open and that someone had left muddy footprints on the carpet. According to the report, someone entered the home and stole a 40-inch television and PS3 game system. The deputy observed that the rear guest room window had been forced open and the locking mechanism was broken off. The stolen items were valued at approximately $1,400. DNA evidence was taken at the scene, but there were no suspects or witnesses at the time of the report.

JAN. 16 — A resident of Kings Way called the PBSO substation in Royal Palm Beach last Thursday to report a case of vandalism. According to a PBSO report, sometime between 7 and 8 a.m., someone broke the victim’s mailbox, which is located on the swale in front of his home. The victim said the suspect broke the pole holding the mailbox and damaged the box itself. The damage was estimated at approximately $25. There were no suspects or witnesses at the time of the report.

JAN. 16 — An employee of Petsmart on State Road 7 called the PBSO substation in Royal Palm Beach last Thursday afternoon to report a case of shoplifting. According to a PBSO report, at approximately 2:15 p.m., a woman entered the store and approached the employee. The customer asked to see several grooming clippers that were locked in a display case. According to the report, the employee said the woman asked several questions about the clippers and requested to bring them to the grooming area to ask the Petsmart groomers about the products. The employee secured the display case and escorted the suspect to the grooming area. According to the report, while the suspect was talking to the groomers, another customer approached the employee and asked for assistance. When the employee returned to the grooming area at approximately 2:45 p.m., a groomer asked if the suspect had purchased the clippers and noted that she had walked out of the store with them. According to the report, the employee went outside and observed the suspect leaving in a gray Mazda 6. He was able to identify the license plate number. According to the report, the suspect is described as a white female in her early 50s, approximately 5’3” with blonde hair. The stolen clippers were valued at approximately $434. There was no further information available at the time of the report.

JAN. 18 — A deputy from the PBSO substation in Wellington was called to a home in Olympia last Saturday night regarding a residential burglary. According to a PBSO report, sometime between 3:15 and 9:15 p.m., someone pried open the rear sliding-glass door of the home with an unknown blunt object and gained entry to the victim’s house. The victim said the perpetrator(s) removed several pieces of jewelry from the master bedroom on the second floor of the home and also entered an unlocked safe. There were no suspects or witnesses at the time of the report.

JAN. 19 — A resident of 74th Street North called the PBSO’s Acreage/Loxahatchee substation last Sunday afternoon to report a case of vandalism. According to a PBSO report, sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., someone egged the victim’s house. The victim said no damage was caused. According to the report, the victim lives on a dead-end street and there are no children or teenagers in homes nearby. The victim did not know who would have wanted to egg his home. There were no suspects or witnesses at the time of the report.

JAN. 20 — A resident of Hyacinth Place called the PBSO substation in Wellington on Monday to report a home burglary. According to a PBSO report, the victim went outside from approximately 4 to 4:45 p.m. leaving his front door and the outer gate to his apartment’s courtyard area unlocked. According to the report, when the victim returned to the apartment, he discovered that his 32-inch television was missing from his bedroom. The victim said nothing else was taken, and there was no sign of forced entry. The deputy observed that several other items, including another television, a game console, jewelry and watches were left undisturbed. The stolen television was valued at approximately $300. There were no suspects or witnesses at the time of the report.

JAN. 20 — A deputy from the PBSO substation in Wellington was dispatched to a home in the Palm Beach Point community Monday regarding a delayed burglary. According to a PBSO report, the victim said she left her home last Friday at approximately 9 a.m. and returned Monday to find the drawers in her master bedroom open. The victim said she believes someone entered the home through an unlocked door and went through her things. According to the report, the perpetrator(s) attempted to open a locked closet and broke the door handle. There were no suspects or witnesses at the time of the report.
