The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recently awarded Wellington a $200,000 grant for the Brown Trail connector project.
This project will result in the improvement of approximately 2,000 feet of overall bridle path along the east side of Wellington Trace and the north side of the C-15 Canal, connecting Saddle Trail Park (the Blue Trail) to Paddock Park (the Brown Trail).
Improvements include two sections of road striping for equestrian crossings and a culvert crossing within the C-11 Canal, north of the C-15 Canal. The canal crossing will link the east and west trails in Paddock Park and will provide connectivity between the Paddock Park and Saddle Trail Park neighborhoods.
The grant was awarded under provisions of the Recreational Trails Program, which provides funds to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both non-motorized and motorized recreational trail uses. Grants are generally awarded on an annual basis after a long approval process.
