A National Garden Club Natural Disaster Fund Grant of $4,000 was given to the Wellington Garden Club recently, and local scouts will participate in restoration activities.
All students of the Master Gardener program in Palm Beach County are educated through field trips to Gene Joyner’s Unbelievable Acres Botanic Garden. The Wellington Garden Club Master Gardeners have formed a 10-member restoration committee to restore the facility. They have researched tropical fruit trees, including rare species, to replace and expand the tropical fruit tree area, plus replace eight palms that were lost.
The plan is to have “planting parties” with Wellington Girl Scout Troop Cadettes 22222 and Wellington Boy Scout Troop 222 on Jan. 13 and Jan. 20. Joyner, Larry Grosser and club members will be educating the youth as the trees are planted. The Cadettes, led by Allison Zimmerman, will be earning their tree badge, which will be awarded at an Arbor Day celebration on Jan. 20. at the restored fruit tree garden at 10 a.m.
