Wellington Landings Middle School sixth-grade student Audrey DellaVecchia was recently named one of the winners of the South Florida illustrated poem contest for National Chemistry Week. She was the winner in the middle school category (grades six to eight) for all of South Florida.
The competition is held annually by the American Chemical Society for National Chemistry Week.
As part of NCW 2020, 800 students nationwide from grades K-12 shared their interpretation of the theme “Sticking with Chemistry” in the form of illustrated poems. South Florida received 160 entries, and DellaVecchia was selected as one of the four first-place winners.
She received an award certificate and a $25 gift card. Her poem was also entered into the national ACS competition.
Her artwork and poem were sponsored by her teacher, Teresa Cameron.
