Wellington Roller Hockey Week 11 Update

The Wellington Roller Hockey Association is continuing its season at Village Park. Shown below are capsule summaries from WRHA Week 11 games.

Junior Panthers 4, Junior Bruins 0 — On a chilly January morning, the Junior Panthers, led by Luc Hanchuk’s pair of goals, shut out the Junior Bruins 4-0. The Panthers led 1-0 after the first period. They added a pair of goals in the second, and closed with a late tally in the third. Other Panther scoring came from Richard Jones (1 goal), Ava Taylor (first goal of the season) and Matthew Taylor (1 assist). Goalie John Spina made 26 of 29 saves in the victory, while counterpart Blu Wahl stopped multiple breakaways and odd-man rushes to keep the game close. The Panthers outshot the Bruins 44-21.

Prep Panthers 7, Prep Rangers 1 — On the Prep circuit, the Prep Panthers, led by Felipe Deguzman’s 6 points (5 goals, 1 assist) defeated the Rangers 7-1. The Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. Lauren Deguzman (1 goal, 1 assist) and Jameson Quintus (1 goal) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers. For the Rangers, Amanda Warszycki (1 goal) scored late in the third period on an assist from Ava Taylor. Justin Spina made 11 saves in the net for the Panthers’ victory, almost posting a shutout. Hayden Baker (19 saves) made several breakaway stops and kept the game close until the Panthers broke through with three goals in the third period.
