Eccleston New Chair Of The Florida Commission On The Status Of Women

Sophia Eccleston

Sophia Eccleston of Wellington was selected to serve as the 2022 chair of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women during the commission’s first quarterly meeting. The FCSW is a non-partisan state government commission dedicated to improving the well-being of Florida women and girls, through collaboration, education and celebration.

Eccleston, a U.S. Army veteran, currently works as a senior external affairs manager at Florida Power & Light. She was appointed to the FCSW in 2018 by Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis. Eccleston has chaired the Public Policy Committee for the commission and previously held roles as treasurer and vice chair.

“It’s truly an honor to be selected as chair of this statewide organization and to serve alongside 21 other dynamic leaders of our state,” Eccleston said. “Last year, the commission celebrated its 30-year history, and my goal is to continue the mission by working to help highlight new opportunities and resources for women and girls — our next generation of Floridians.”

There are 22 members that serve on the commission, which is administratively housed in the Office of the Attorney General. The governor, speaker of the house, president of the senate and the attorney general each appoint four members, and the chief financial officer and commissioner of agriculture each appoint three members, to a term of four years.
