Palm Beach County Library System Director Douglas Crane was recently elected to the position of vice president/president-elect of the Florida Library Association (FLA) by a vote of its general membership. Crane has been a member of FLA for more than a decade and has served as chair of both its Leadership Development and Advocacy committees.
“It is an honor to be entrusted by library workers across Florida with this important responsibility. Libraries of all types have endured a challenging past two years with the pandemic and face an uncertain future due to diminished funding and other threats. I intend to work with the entire association to bring awareness to the vital role libraries play in the educational and economic development of Florida,” Crane said.
Crane has worked for the Palm Beach County Library System since 1998, including the last eight years as director. In addition to his work in Palm Beach County, he served as past chair of the State Library Council of Florida and is past president of the Southeast Florida Library Information Network.
