Barky Pines Animal Rescue & Sanctuary and the Indian Trail Improvement District are hosting a ninth anniversary and dedication event Saturday, Nov. 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at Downers Dog Park, located at 16700 East Downers Drive in The Acreage.
A shade tree will be dedicated in memory of former ITID Board of Supervisors members Michelle Damone, who spearheaded the push for the park, and Gary Dunkley.
Damone, who was elected to the ITID board four times between 1999 and 2016, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in February 2022. She died March 4, 2023, at the age of 53.
Dunkley, who was twice elected to the board, died April 28, 2018, at the age of 62.
A free pup art creation is being offered to the first 20 pets who arrive.
