Letter: No ‘Freedom Of Speech’ Issue In ‘The Interview’

Editor’s note: The following letter is in response to Leonard Wechsler’s review of The Interview, published Jan. 2.

Sadly, I am disappointed by your critical innocence. You have bought into the phony “freedom of speech” aspect of the movie The Interview.

To make or see a movie about the assassination of a living foreign leader is not an issue of free speech, no matter how the media spins it.

Freedom of speech would be tested with the making and/or seeing a movie where the assassinated victim would be the living president of our own country.

Do you think that such a movie would ever make it to an American screening? Do you think that it ever could have been made? That, would be an issue of freedom of speech.

You were duped into an almost patriotic duty to see this movie, along with many other Americans.
