Pierce Hammock Elementary School was buzzing with excitement on Friday, Jan. 18, as 28 fourth-grade and fifth-grade students and their families assembled in the cafeteria for Pierce Hammock’s annual spelling bee.
The students had been preparing for months, and the competitors were strong spellers. After several rounds, a winner shined through, as fifth-grade student Anna Alfieri emerged victorious. The first runner-up was Lewis Wilson, and the second runner-up was Brady Machado.
Alfieri and Wilson will represent Pierce Hammock at the local area spelling bee Feb. 21 at St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton.
