The Spirit of Liberty Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its annual awards luncheon on Saturday, April 13 at the Mayacoo Lakes Country Club. Several students from local high schools were honored and received a variety of awards.
Lucas Mayer, a senior at the King’s Academy, and Kaitlyn Mouring, a senior at Santaluces High School, were awarded the Captain Ebenezer Scofield award for their accomplishments. Deanna Mayer, a Spirit of Liberty member, accepted the award on her son’s behalf.
Anjanette Latouche of Wellington High School and Kaityln Mouring were awarded the DAR Good Citizenship Award for their outstanding work in their community as well as their scholastic accomplishments.
Talia Fradkin, a freshman at Palm Beach Virtual School, received first place in the State of Florida for her poem in the Junior American Citizenship Contest. Her poem will be entered into the national competition. Fradkin has won numerous times previously at the national level.
The Spirit of Liberty Chapter, presided over by Regent Beverly Frasure, received many awards at the national level. It achieved 100 percent participation in the president’s national project, the state achievement award, the library award, the historic preservation award, outstanding volunteer award, genealogy award, the award for outstanding service to veterans, as well as the Gold Level on the Florida State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution honor roll.
On an individual level, members Virginia Davis and Teresa Bennett were awarded outstanding achievement in membership, and Bennett was personally recognized for her work as registrar.
Rosemary Mouring received an award for outstanding community service and numerous hours of volunteer work in the community; she is actively involved in veterans projects.
Pam Strasser recently won the Jean Dixon Mann award for having the youngest child admitted to the Florida Society of the Children of the American Revolution. Many of the members have been active members for well over 10 years, including one for over 30 years.
