The Acreage was moving along nicely prior to the first cancer-cluster lawsuit. Its sails found the trade winds and most people were glad to be along for the ride.
The first cancer-cluster lawsuit caused The Acreage to veer off course into the doldrums. Then slowly the sailors, residents, rowed The Acreage back to a course that promised the trade winds.
Tropical Storm Isaac was ahead unseen and pushed The Acreage back into the doldrums. Then slowly the sailors rowed The Acreage back to a course that promised the trade winds.
A second cancer-cluster lawsuit caused the Acreage to wobble off course into the doldrums. Then slowly the sailors rowed The Acreage back to a course that promised the trade winds.
Now third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh cancer-cluster lawsuits have caused many of the sailors to become deaf minded to the unfortunate predicament of a few residents. Again, the sailors slowly start rowing The Acreage back to a course that promises the trade winds.
The few will not accept the facts that The Acreage locality is not the principal cause of their hardships. They, and the others who have joined their efforts to take action, believe it’s imperative to do so. It will not stop until The Acreage is heading for the bottom. When that time comes, the only command given will be “sailors, rest your oars.”
I’m beyond angry and fed up, put up or shut up.
The Town-Crier stated the cancer occurrence was an oddity for the size of the Acreage (Our Opinion, Aug. 23). The oddity, small, could very well be explained by falling into the margin of error of statistical analysis.
The Acreage is a place fit to raise a family. To date, seven times the unfortunate and their supporting rods have caused damage to the image of The Acreage. Seven times residents have watched their property values depreciate because of them.
The economic damages that have been caused to The Acreage are much greater than lower property values. Why should those who caused economic loss go unscathed from their allegations?
Bob Sommer, The Acreage
Let’s smoke our cigarettes like they are going out of style while we sue Pratt and Whitney for our problems. Lawsuits make the world go round. There is and has never been a cancer cluster, just a bunch of lawyers salivating over a big payday.
