The Wellington Art Society will feature well-known local artist Deborah Bigeleisen at its Wednesday, Oct. 19 meeting in the new Wellington Community Center (12150 W. Forest Hill Blvd.). A meet-and-greet will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a member spotlight and a brief meeting. Bigeleisen’s presentation and a raffle will complete the evening.
Bigeleisen grew up in Los Angeles and earned her degree in textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She founded her own global print design company in Manhattan. Moving to Florida in 1998, she was eager to learn oil painting, the medium of the masters, studying at the Armory Art Center and completing her training through master workshops.
Early in her career, Bigeleisen was represented by a gallery, where she painted beautiful roses using the techniques of the Dutch masters. She is awed by the beauty, complexity and mystery of flowers. Her discovery of fractals gave rise to a whole new shift in her work to colorful abstract paintings.
Bigeleisen loves to share her knowledge by lecturing and conducting International Art Fair tours and as an adjunct professor of art at Palm Beach State College. Her work has been featured on the covers and pages of numerous international art and design publications.
“In this short attention span, instant gratification, digitally driven culture we live in, I am asking viewers to put their devices down, to take the time to pause and really look at what is in front of them, look at what is around them, and to see and question more than meets the eye,” Bigeleisen said.
