Editor’s note: The following letter is in response to the letter “Okeechobee Speed Limit Not Safe” by Sandy Molenda, published June 29.
The only reason that lower speed limits might be “unsafe” as Sandy Molenda stated is that the self-absorbed speeders caught up in their own self-import ignore speed limits, speed, pass in no-passing zones and in other ways place themselves above the law.
Prior to our lowering the speed limit on Okeechobee Blvd. through the Town of Loxahatchee Groves, the speed limit was 45 mph with average actual speeds of 55 to 65 mph common. Now, with a speed limit of 30 mph, average actual speeds are only about 40 mph, and we can actually get out of our side, so-called “alphabet,” roads much more easily and safely.
If anyone feels that our 30 mph speed limit hampers their way of life, they are more than welcome to go around Loxahatchee Groves. In fact, please do.
Slow down and smell the road apples.
Dr. J. William “Bill” Louda, Loxahatchee Groves
