International polo star Nic Roldan handed out pizzas from Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza to club families on Friday, June 5 at the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club in Wellington.
In collaboration with the Wellington Boys & Girls Club board, Roldan handed out 150 pizzas as families drove through the club’s parking lot. Families then went home to enjoy the pizza while joining the famous polo star and model during a virtual dance party via Zoom.
The virtual pizza party celebrated Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County’s virtual summer camp and the end of the school year.
“I’m so excited about reuniting with the Boys & Girls Club family,” Roldan said. “Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces and hearing them laugh brings so much joy to me.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Palm Beach County’s virtual summer camp can be accessed by both club members and non-members alike at www.bgcathome.org. The web site offers some of the most popular programs enjoyed at Boys & Girls Clubs. Throughout the day Monday through Friday, members can enjoy live activities with their favorite club staff and friends. Children will also enjoy ever-changing fun activities that include STEM, arts, music, physical activities and more.
The virtual camp is age-specific so that kindergartners, high school seniors and everyone else in between will find age-appropriate activities. For teens, career readiness programs will continue uninterrupted. For younger children, a focus on limiting academic slide due to distance learning issues will continue.
“My heart is with our kids. Now more than ever with the isolation these kids are experiencing, and we need to offer a glimmer of hope and normalcy. What better way to do so with a dose of fun! The pandemic might keep us more than six feet apart, but it can’t keep us from celebrating,” Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County Board Member Julie Kime said.
Currently being planned is another drive-through party for all club members attending the virtual camp that will hand out art supplies, physical activity equipment and academic enrichment kits so that club members can participate in the planned activities at home.
Traditional summer camps held inside Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County locations will start June 15, according to CDC COVID-19 safety guidelines. More information about camps and re-opening clubs to children will be released soon at www.bgcpbc.org. The virtual club is a solution to reach all children who will not be able to attend a traditional camp this summer.
“This is going to be a very different summer for our staff and children. We’re hoping that our efforts will not only keep our club members safe, but also make them feel connected to their peers and club staff as we deal with life changes due to the pandemic,” Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County President & CEO Jaene Miranda said.
